Advances in Biochemical Engineering / Biotechnology, Volume 087, Biomanufacturing,

BiomanufacturingBy:
Jian-Jiang Zhong (Editor)ISBN: 3540205012Publisher: Springer - 2004-06-24Hardcover 1 Edition 330 Pages List Price: $249.00 (USD) Sales Rank: 2688305

Advances in bioproducts manufacturing such as the production of the anticancer drug paclitaxel by large-scale plant cell culture, submerged cultivation of medicinal mushrooms, and monoclonal antibody production are reflected. Interactions among molecular, cellular and process engineering aspects in industrial fermentations are discussed, and application of fuzzy control and fuzzy neural networks to practical production and the biomedical area are shown. For sustainable development and green processing, production of lactic acid from paper sludge, production of a generic fermentation feedstock from wheat, and fabrication and application of whole-cell based biosensors in the environment are also demonstrated.

Book Title :
Stem Cell Research: Medical Applications And Ethical Controversy

The science and technology are detailed, dense, accurate, and up-to-date in this title in the New Biology series, and the readable discussion of the ethical issues shows that there are no simple answers.www.viewzoft.com. Physiologist Panno explains how stem cells can be used to treat, and possibly cure, a wide variety of diseases, and he predicts that the use of adult stem cells will soon be routine. An important chapter looks at legal practices in the U.S., Europe, and the U.K. The book includes occasional diagrams; an extensive, detailed glossary; and many bibliographical references to science and ethical discussions in print and on the Web.www.viewzoft.com. In addition, there is a chapter summarizing cell biology and recombinant DNA technology. A carefully done, in-depth series that will work well for researchers and debaters, adults as well as teens. Other titles in this new series: The Cell, Aging, Animal Cloning, Cancer, and Gene Therapy.
